...Seems familiar somehow. Besides the (mostly) traditional first breakfast at ロッテリア, and later クリームパン and Royal Milk Tea... Well, pretty jetlagged. Managed to avoid it last time by sleeping in ahead of time, didn't have a chance this time. Not a big deal, I can use the morning time.

Somehow, there's McDonald's conveniently between the train station and the guest house (again). Fortunately, this time it's not the only food option for miles. Nor next door.

No sense of culture shock or anything remotely approaching it this time; managed to become completely oblivious to my surroundings almost immediately. (Also, hatred of the weather commenced practically upon landing -- it's obviously not high summer anymore, but it's always worse than Denver.) I can only hope that what little Japanese I have comes back as easily.

Also... What lousy timing for "Silver Week" here... Why can't it be during the actual school year?

You know, for most people, it IS during the actual school year.

Yeah, I guess that's true, even if it doesn't matter to me. At any rate, my complaint would still apply even if classes had started, because anytime near the beginning of the semester is fairly useless for catching up with things -- Golden Week (even being after classes start) is pretty useless, too.

Eh, it's just bad luck, it's all semi-random anyway. Thankfully there's New Years.

Although... I know Sophia bucks the national schedule quite surprisingly at times (like observing a couple holidays on different days than everyone else, which I like, because I get to skip rush hour one day and go in on another day without rush hour), but I wonder if most universities are more like Sophia or do they run closer to the normal primary/middle/high school schedule?

Technically I think Sophia's semester officially starts today, although in practical terms that has no effect on anything whatsoever that I can see, since classes don't start for a bit yet, and we can't even pre-register until Wednesday (no idea why Wednesday, either).
