Not So Big In Japan

Observations, and my dorm room.

First off, the intersection next to Shakujiikouen Station is so busy that unlike in America, where you have cars with the occasional train crossing, you have trains with the occasional car crossing. This really would be an annoying place to have a car.

I found a few interesting input methods for the iPhone, including a way of writing kanji by stroke. Unfortunately, for whatever annoying reason, this only works by switching in Chinese (which requires you to know which characters were simplified differently in Chinese and Japanese), but it's a way of looking things up by character alone. There might be programs that do this, too, but I haven't yet found them.

I think my old Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 lens is dead. The focus is jammed. I guess I need to buy another mid-range zoom lens, otherwise I haven't got many options at normal focal lengths. I'm not in a particularly hurry about it, though.

Are there any other headphones out there that have the same control as the earbuds for the iPhone (i.e., the start/stop/answer/hang-up button with the mic)? I think I should look for them, because the actual earbuds are a non-starter, and I'd like to have something. Also maybe a case.

Finally, pictures.
