I Suppose...
...It's just as well I never named my car, since today is probably it for it.

Had an accident this morning. Guy ran a red light and sideswiped me. Pretty much totaled the front of the car. Right now, I smell like airbag, which probably saved me from more serious injury (along with the seatbelts). But... I still feel pretty damned sore and beat up right now, especially my head, neck, and shoulders.

We'll see what happens with insurance, but I'm worried that instead of fixing it up (which, depending on the damage up there, might not even really be possible), they'll just total it. I can't imagine the Blue Book value for a '98 Honda Civic with almost 200k miles is going to make for much of a down payment on anything. And, well, right now... Not exactly floating in cash.

At least insurance covers a rental (well, most of it -- I can handle the ~$4/day slice, though) until this gets worked out. Chevy Cobalt, usual squishy Chevy handling. Not really sure if it's that uncomfortable a car, or I'm just in that bad of shape.

Eeeeek! That sucks. At least you're ok, mostly.

I have two Honda Civics. I like them.

I am glad you're all right! And so sorry you were in a crash... I'll be thinking of you. Take it easy. Will you see a doctor just in case? Sometimes things turn up later...

Well, I was going to say I'll see a doctor if it gets worse or doesn't get better, but it has, mostly. Haven't had any of the symptoms of acute whiplash or anything, and I figure if I was gonna get them, I would have got them by now.

Still, have a bit of a stiff neck.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear about your car. But I'm glad you weren't hurt, aside from the aches and pains. If you know anyone with a hot tub, now is the time to go visit them.
Douglas Triggs: taodoubt72 on December 12th, 2007 11:14 pm (UTC)
Well, there was the bathtub... But that's about it.
geniusofevilgeniusofevil on December 10th, 2007 11:46 pm (UTC)
that's ridiculous. If your car is totaled, those insurance bastards should give you what you need to buy a new car outright.

Glad you're ok
Douglas Triggs: duckdoubt72 on December 13th, 2007 12:00 am (UTC)
Well, we'll see what they do.

I imagine it would take a lawsuit to get a new car out of it, and probably not even then.

Yikes! Glad you're okay. Sorry about the car.
Dustybigmog on December 11th, 2007 12:22 am (UTC)
Forget the car. You should be glad that you're alive! You could have serious injuries. Looks like you might be in court again to settle this mess.

I never understood why you drove so much since you work from home. Move near a light rail station and use that to get to places near other light rail stations.

Re: Heavy
On the lawsuit -- I hope not. Anyway, lucky is winning the lottery. Lucky is not getting hit by an 84-year-old guy who didn't see the light. At best, this just isn't particularly unlucky.

And the light rail, besides not going to most of the places I want to go, isn't exactly immune to problems (see: recent derailment). And living near a light rail station is more expensive than I can really afford. It'll never be like Japan -- even if they finish the network, I'll still need a car.

Besides, I like driving, and still drive a lot less than most people, only get out of the apartment maybe four -- at most five -- days a week on average lately (which, actually, is not really enough). Most of all, I can avoid rush hour 99% of the time (working at home had that in common with the last couple of jobs), which is the thing I really don't like.

Re: Heavy
I didn't say lucky. You're more on the side of unlucky I'd venture.

sorry t o hear it

Never like to hear of dead cars. Even less so, sore and mildly injured pals.

FWIW- When I rolled that car one time, I have never been so sore in my life, especially through the neck and shoulders, so I think what you are eperiencing is likely normal. Obviously see the doc if it persists.

Also- your insurance co. should give you a reasonable settlement for that civic, high miles and all. I would think that you should be able to get at the worst a similar civic type car of reasonable vintage.

Happy Holidays, anyway - hoping this works out for you...

Re: sorry t o hear it
Yeah, we'll see. My brother has access to some old cars, too, so maybe I'll end up with an old Accord or something.

But I might actually try to get something new. We'll see. And there's the slight possibility that they'll actually fix it. (I was surprised when they did last time, and there was more damage then).

(BTW, send me you address, for, you know, address-type-things.)
