Well, the convention is well over. Was pretty busy, especially at the beginning and end, and busy when I wasn't busy getting out to see things. Didn't see everything on my list of things to see -- but got most of the highlights. The International Passenger Terminal, the top of the Landmark Tower, but not the Ramen Museum or the beach. Weather was decent (cooler than last week), although there wasn't a lot of sun, just a couple days of partly hazy.

Also got some karaoke in, of course, and a lot of hanging out and drinking towards the end. Totally didn't take advantage of staying in the swanky Manyo Club bath, was too busy running out to hang out with people and/or work or whatever.

On Sunday, went up to Ikebukuro and Akihabara with Chris and Laurel, where we went to Sunshine City (Namjatown) to experience Gyoza Stadium (yum, if expensive) and Ice Cream City -- also blew a wad here, but had various interesting flavors, including Indian curry (yeah, right, it was Japanese curry), cheese (which was by far the best flavor), and gyuutan (cow tongue). Chris loved the cow tongue, but apparently you couldn't find anything so nasty he wouldn't eat it (although the cow tongue was disappointingly non-nasty. Weird, but not particularly nasty).

There was other stuff, but I forget.

Yesterday, hopped the (rush hour! Oops, wasn't thinking) train to Ueno, where I met Laurel and Chris again, ate lots of various bakery interesting bakery goods, and slept on the train up to Hakodate here, where the "real" trip has resumed. Surprisingly, didn't have too much trouble meeting up, even though only one of us had a phone.

Anyway, time to go find breakfast.

Amusingly, my wife was in Japan from the 3rd to the 10th in Tokyo and Osaka before heading off to Beijing. She didn't have much time to sight see as she spent most of her time touring properties with J-REIT reps. She complained about the typhoon making the tours a bit more miserable than usual.
