...And I determined that the reason that the rice got scorched in the rice cooker is that I used too much water, and adjusting the water/rice ratio dramatically improved the result. It seems that extra water leads to scorched rice, something that makes sense in hindsight, but not something I expected.

Also, rice left in that thing keeps forever, I'm still muching on random small handfuls of rice I cooked last Friday.
