I'm Bored
...And have an hour to kill. So, time to play the Wikipedia "Bacon" game.

The rules of the game require you to find the shortest number of linked articles from one topic to another. I've never actually heard any rules for picking end-points, so we'll let the "random article" link do the work. Let's see, we've got:

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and black garden ant.

Hmmm... Let's see:

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
C++
Exception handling
Debugging
Computer bug
Insect
Ant
Formicinae
Lasius
Lasius niger, a.k.a., black garden ant.

Gaah, nine steps. Somebody's got to be able to do better.

In the mood: boredbored
Now playing: some random stuff they're playing at Starbucks

My preferred name for the game is Mitch Wagner's original term of "WikiWhacking."

And I can knock your nine down a little:

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute -->
New York -->
Ladybug -->
Insect -->
Ants -->
Category: Ants -->
Black Garden Ant

That's without "cheating," which I define as going backwards and using the 'What Links Here' page. That lets me do it in six, but at least one of the links is impossible going forward.

Oh, I didn't realize the category trick, that would have dropped two steps off mine right there, although it still only would have been seven, so you'd still have me beat by one.

And that's already six, so "cheating" wouldn't have helped... Unless you mean six pages including the end-points, not six links.
